Greetings Rebels,

Welcome to the March XRSA newsletter. We hope this email finds you safe and well.

Earlier this week we saw a decision from the Federal court that the Environment Minister, Susan Ley does not have a duty of care to protect the children of Australia from the climate crisis. In the same week we see the Coalition announced a $128m spend of our money to help mining companies get around environmental protection laws.

You can’t make this shit up. We need a rebellion against extinction!

Next Steps for New Rebels

Extinction is Forever Rally

This week rebels brought the struggle against the extinction crisis to the Adelaide Fringe. On Tuesday rebels staged a dramatic funeral procession led by the giant, partially skeletonized koala puppet called Blinky.

Blinky bellowed cries of agony as the procession made its way down Rundle Road to the front of both Gluttony and The Garden of Unearthly Delights. These cries evoked the devastating Black Summer bushfires where 3 billion animals were estimated to have been killed, injured or have their habitat destroyed.

The spectacular procession featured XR’s Red Rebel Brigade, Oilies, singers from Rise Up singing and of course the mourners.

Our thanks goes out to rebels from XR Vic for both bringing Blinky over to Adelaide and being on the ground to support the action.

Climate Crisis Die-In

With a state election only days away both Steven Marshall and Peter Malinauskas are failing to take even the first steps in acknowledging the crisis we face by not committing to a climate emergency declaration.

Rebels with chalk, banners and placards in hand recently staged an action in Rundle Mall on the need for this declaration. They covered the iconic Malls Balls with a sheet of a burning Earth, held a die-in in front of it and engaged with passersby.

The Climate Crisis and the Arts

The Adelaide Festival recently held a full-day event with discussions on the climate crisis and the arts. Rebels were out and about spruiking our new national Fund Solutions Not Pollution federal election campaign (details below).

They even had the pleasure of catching up with writer, troublemaker, former Greens senator and extinction rebel, Scott Ludlum. Scott will be speaking at a live-streamed event this Saturday on State Capture. Don’t miss it.
