Greetings Rebels,

Welcome to the XRSA March Newsletter. We hope this email finds you safe and well.

Later this month rebels across the country will be participating in mass, disruptive actions as part of the Autumn Rebellion. In Adelaide we’re bringing disco disruption with a massive discobedience action. Classes to learn the dance moves continue this week. We’re also holding a prelaunch event this Saturday (scroll down for details).

In the last month we saw the Liberal MP, Nicolle Flint announce that she will not contest her seat of Boothby at the next election. Flint has previously called environmental and animal rights activism ‘a scourge’ and has a poor voting record on climate action. We have previously held actions at Flint’s office. You can read our full response here.

Last week we held our most disruptive and widely reported action to date. Shutting down Flinders street as rebels scaled the Santos Headquarters, releasing smoke flares, dropping banners and spray chalking the building. Read more about all of our recent actions below.

Next Steps for New Rebels

Gas-led Extinction

Last Wednesday, Mai and Ian scaled Santos headquarters in Adelaide. They dropped banners, released smoke flares and spray chalked the building. The pair protested against fossil fuel giant Santos.

Santos plans to build 750+ gas wells in Narrabri during a climate emergency. This ecocidal behaviour goes against the wishes of Gomeroi, farmers, conservationists, climate scientists and the wider community.

Below on Flinders street Ronny, Jenny, Cate and Sarah glued themselves to the road. Protesting for their grandchildren and climate refugees who will witness the worst from continual climate inaction. They were joined in chains by Eugene and Trish.

Police have charged Mai and Ian with property damage and unlawfully being on premises. Ronny, Jenny, Cate and Sarah have been charged with loitering. Police took down names for Eugene and Trish. They will likely also receive charges.

All have been released on bail. Ian has refused the initial bail conditions and appeared in court this morning represented by a QC. Their bail conditions have been adjusted.

The rebels involved have setup a crowdfunding campaign to support them in paying fines. Note that the crowdfunder has previously covered past fines.

Extinction Rebellion blocks roads and causes disruption to wake people up to the present climate and ecological emergency. We use non-violent civil disobedience as history shows it to be effective in creating change.

Mother Earth: Condition Critical

Mother Earth is critically ill. On a Sunday morning in Hahndorf rebels carried our beautiful planet on a stretcher as they chanted and blocked traffic. With signs and megaphone in hand they brought sound and colour while raising the alarm.

Blackwood Banner Drop

“We’re beating Covid with science. Demand we fix climate with science.” This was the primary message at our banner drop in Blackwood. Rebels received a lot of support from passing motorists.
