Hello rebels,
Australia is swiftly becoming a pariah within the international community. A consequence of the inaction and climate skepticism of our political leaders and our increasing contribution to global emissions. Pop culture icons Rolling Stone magazine and Sir David Attenborough have recently called us out. Meanwhile Deputy PM Barnaby Joyce cites questionable fringe scientists as justification for climate denial.
The world is watching us. Now more than ever, we must make our voices heard. There are so many ways that you can help out, ranging from baking a cake to staging a die-in, and every effort counts.
Recently Extinction Rebellion announced the next International Rebellion will start on October 7th. Locally we are building capacity for this date through our trainings and upcoming actions. Now is the time to get involved, trained and ready to rebel.
Actions in Last Month
Heading for Extinction Talk
Last month we delivered our Heading for Extinction talk to a crowd of around fifty people in Hahndorf. Many of those in attendance have taken action and are forming a local group for the Adelaide Hills area. Expect to hear more details from them soon.
Crafternoon
We ran our second Crafternoon event where rebels once again painted signs and embroidered flags in preparation for our upcoming actions.
Conscientious Protector Training
We’re continuing to train up more rebels through our Conscientious Protector trainings. Rebels who have participated in these trainings are now moving into roles at our upcoming actions.
Join the Rebellion
We have a lot coming up in the next few weeks, and we’d love you to get involved. For new members, we recommend you:
- Join up – and persuade friends to do the same
- Come to our ‘Heading for Extinction Talk’ (See events below)
- Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
- Check the XRSA blog for posts and important information
- Spread the XR message by getting a group you’re involved with to host a talk by Extinction Rebellion speakers. If interested contact XRSAoutreach@gmail.com
- If you can’t spare the time to commit to XRSA but would like to help financially, head over to our donate page. Every little bit helps.
Participate in Actions
We encourage you to come out and get involved in our actions. Many actions run by Extinction Rebellion will involve nonviolent direct action (NVDA). To be prepared for them, we need activists to complete Conscientious Protector training. After completing this training you can join or form an affinity group.
Affinity Groups are small groups who organise and take direct action together. As we are grow, they will be the most effective way for us to disrupt and draw attention to our demands.
Affinity groups have a long history. They’ve proven to be effective at enhancing activist support, sustainability and safety. At their core, they’re small groups of people who trust each other. and have similar views on their preferred types and levels of actions.
In XRSA, the Actions and Arts Working group are working out an overarching strategy. Each Affinity group has relative autonomy to work on their actions in support of the strategy while maintaining the values of XR.

Conscientious Protector Training
July 20 @ 1:30 pm – 5:30 pm
Extinction Rebellion conducts training for new and aspiring activists concerned about the lack of action on the ecological emergency, widespread extinctions, and rising global temperatures. Based on the principles of nonviolent direct action (NVDA), this training will give you the skills to engage in civil resistance, a peaceful and disruptive form of direct action.
July 21 @ 2 pm – 5:30 pm
Civil disobedience actions with major impact need really good organisation on the day. This depends a lot on skilled Marshals directing and informing other rebels so that group action is focussed, effective and with care for all. If you have done the XR Conscientious Protector Training please come along, connect with other rebels and build your skills.
July 22nd @ 12 pm – 3 pm
Heat waves. Fire. Flood. Disease. Disruption. War.
The climate crisis extends beyond hot summers in South Australia.
Climate deaths are already a reality.
The government holds our lives at ransom by not telling the truth about the climate crisis. It is up to citizens to call attention to the crisis that threatens all of us. Come take action with us as we hold a mourning ceremony for lives already lost to the climate crisis, and for those that will be lost if we continue on a path of inaction.
Heading for Extinction Presentation
July 25th @ 6:30 pm – 8:00pm
Concerned about species loss, hotter summers and our children’s future?
Come and hear about the situation facing us and learn more about the potential for using nonviolent civil disobedience to move our governments to action.
July 27th @ 10 am – 11 am
Reclaim the streets!
Join us for our first bicycle swarming action. This action is designed to be fun and friendly. Action will be disruptive but non-arrestable.
