Hello rebels,
With the Federal Election over, it is clear that our demands need to be heard and acted upon. A big thank you to everyone who was out there supporting a vote for climate! The time for petitions and gentle persuasion has passed, and for Extinction Rebellion the election result is evidence that we need ongoing, peaceful civil disobedience to create lasting social and political change.
We’ve had another busy few weeks with the ‘Heading for Extinction’ presentations, training events for Conscientious Protector Training and Marshalls and local actions. As we scale up we want everyone to be trained and supported to be involved in a range of actions. We also need people who prefer to take support roles for the actions – so whatever your skills or capacity, it will be great to have you on board.
Over the last month we had a snap action at the Santos Annual General Meeting where several courageous rebels braved the cold, the wind and the rain to push Santos to taking climate breakdown seriously.
We’ve continued to do banner drops across the South Eastern Freeway, Southern Expressway and South Road which is a great way to capture the attention of motorists.
Our fundraising efforts have been boosted through a Live Music fundraiser, an Art Exhibition and multiple screenings of Tomorrow Ever After. A big thanks to the organisers, musicians, artists, speakers and everyone who came along to support these events.
A new XR regional branch called XR Up North has been formed. They will be running an information session on June 2nd.
We’d also like to highlight two upcoming actions. This Friday there will be a protest for Climate Action at the King William St end of Rundle Mall and on Saturday June 8th there will be a singing flash mob action.
